Course Description
There are many ways to approach the complexities of painting the landscape. In this course we will learn to simplify the landscape by breaking it down into two to four value groups. Simplifying in this way allows us to make sense of an otherwise complex subject, as well as to create form using light and shadow. We will also discuss what information we should include in a painting and what information we can omit.
During this five week course we will look at examples of how great artists throughout history have employed this method of simplification to create masterpieces. We will do demonstrations in grayscale as well as demos in full color as we paint various landscapes from mountains, to deserts and the sea.
Each lesson will be accompanied by a corresponding assignment and critique, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to practice the concepts being taught.
