Workshop Description
In this workshop, we will be playing and exploring with this exciting way to use oil paint. Learn about various materials, surface effects and techniques used to achieve unique finishes. Experiment with non traditional tools to apply paint and texture. We will approach our abstract paintings in a playful and experimental way! This workshop will open new avenues to traditional oil painters, especially with abstract ideas! Get ready to play and have some fun -as we build our paintings in oil and cold wax!

Workshop Outline
This workshop will cover the basics and beyond in how to paint loose, playful abstracts in oil and cold wax medium. The workshop will delve into creating a good foundation using texture, color, mark-making and a history of surface -in a loose, painterly approach. Lisa will share ideas on composition and fun techniques on how to "build" an abstract painting in oil/cold wax medium. Demos and discussions each week.

Workshop Materials
Cold Wax- Gamblin or Dorlands Cold Wax
Oil paints-assortment of oil paint colors, bring your favorites! (a few I will be using -Titanium White,Warm White, India Yellow & Asphaltum in Gamblin, Chinese Orange in Sennelier, Celadon Green and Ash Blue in Charvin, Quinacridone Gold in Daniel Smith))
2-3 --Artists pre-gessoed panels (I recommend the Ampersand gessoboard or Cheap Joe's pre-gessoed panels- in various sizes for this workshop- they can be cradled or flat-your preference -
Sizes-can be 12x12's or 16x16's -these are suggested sizes- you are welcomed to paint on any size you feel comfortable with
Arches Oil Paper pad-- in either 12x16 or 9x12. Either size is good.
A trowel or offset style knife 4-inch
Scrapers with silicone blades--Messermeister-the dough scrapers you find in kitchen shops squeegees/scrapers, or Princeton Creative Catalyst scrapers-#1 or #6 are also good!
Color Shapers- 1inch or 2 inch
Gamsol- and a container/spray bottle for gamsol
4 inch soft brayer
Oil Pigment Sticks –just a couple in your favorite colors (I prefer R&F brand-India Yellow is a great one)
Rags/paper towels & wet wipes
Anything interesting to make texture in paint (tissue paper, stencils, stamps, string, grid, mesh etc), your favorite Collage Paper- if you would like to add collage and Gold Leafing- if you want to add "glitz" to your work
Mark making tools- Caran d’Ache crayons, soft pastels, graphite pencils, Art Graf, Stabilo crayons (Woodys), King Art Mixed Media crayons
Artist apron/shirt, gloves- this is very messy painting!
1 inch & 2 inch Blue painter’s tape or the white painters tape
Freezer paper- for palette
Gloves-Optional
