Course Description
In this six-week course various experimental approaches to making works on paper will be pursued with full explanation and demonstration by the tutor. It’s designed to be a series of fun challenges to complement and extend traditional painting practice.
Course Outline
Week 1: Monotype. Single and multi-plate monotype.
Week 2: Colour monotype. Black, red, and yellow, two techniques to try.
Week 3: CMYK watercolour. Mixing colour by overlaying colour glazes.
Week 4: Wax crayon resist. Magic technique used by children, but we can also play.
Week 5: Wax crayon over monotype. Combining and consolidating previous weeks.
Week 6: Collage using what’s left over from weeks 1-5 to make brand new images.
Course Materials
1x small plate for monotype, either metal, perspex, or glass, around 6” x 8”
Oil colour: lamp black, Venetian red, yellow ochre
Brushes, knife, solvent, rags, cork
Paper, smooth cartridge various sizes up to A2 (16.5in x 23.4in)
Studio equipment (clips, masking tape, pencils, sealable jars, scissors)
Watercolour: cadmium yellow, crimson, phthalocyanine blue, black
Wax crayons in various colours (including black)
