Course Description

In this class we will learn to observe and become attuned to our environment. We will bend the boundaries and stretch a bit outside of the traditional still lIfe painting by using contemporary methods that are reinforced by traditional ways of art making.

Students will either slowly accumulate a collection of photos and objects to paint from or will work from life.

We will be working with formal qualities of gouache and applying it to create convincing physical spaces and location of objects. Starting with value and progressively moving into color we will learn various layering techniques of gouache and harness the power of this water-based media.
