Workshop Description
Using simple drawing and printing from home exercises we will embrace the possibilities that arise through happy mistakes. By utilising the spontaneity of mark making and using drawing and printing techniques to help detach our critical minds, we will aim to reconnect with the element of play within art to help create expressive images. Experimenting will be the key focus on this course.
Workshop Outline
Week 1 - Drawing
We will start with a presentation talking about the cross pollination between drawing, printing and painting. Looking at artist references with a focus on expressive mark making and works that combine various processes, we will consider different approaches to drawing, printing and painting and the possibilities of combining all three in a work.
We will explore drawing exercises that aim to loosen up our approach to drawing.
Week 2 - Printing
Continuing with the themes of week 1 we will introduce elements of printing into our work. By using a mono-printing technique we will learn the possibilities this simple process can bring to drawing and its endless room for experimentation.
Week 3 - Drawing, Printing and Painting.
In the final week we will be combining three approaches into one, using collage to merge printing with painting.
