Workshop Description

Through the use of regular and acryla gouache, Mike will demonstrate the various techniques of stylizing multiplecolor palettes to achieve a unique look and mood to a finished painting. Some of the techniques discussed and demonstrated will be the use of limited palettes and dialing in color and value with the Gamut mask tool. Color palettes are a valuable tool for any painter to have in order to achieve that very stunning and unexpected look to your painting!

Workshop Outline

Week 1 -

Start with an introduction to color palettes and how to set up a limited complementary palette using the Iris Gamut mask followed by a gouache demo (students are encouraged to paint along with the instructor using the same photo reference or they may provide their own).

Week 2 -

Will start with student homework feedback followed by an introduction to using a triadic color palette then finishing up with another gouache demo (students are encouraged to paint along with the instructor using the same photo reference or they may provide their own).

Week 3 -

Will start with student homework feedback followed by an introduction to using a harmonious color palette with complimentary color accent using the Gamut mask tool, followed by the last gouache demo (students are encouraged to paint along with the instructor using the same photo reference or they may provide their own).

Mike will give feedback on student homework feedback in the online Padlet after the last class (please allow up to 1 week for the feedback to post).
