Course Description

During this course, each student will be able to create one still life. We will walk you through the stages of creating a still life, from drawing up the composition to creating the final version of the painting. We will carefully observe the relationships of color spots in a still life and explore them in paint, as well as manage these relationships. We will also explore the categories of composition, color, and the laws of painting itself. During this 5-week course, students will complete a series of weekly exercises applying different ideas to a single still life. Students are encouraged to draw together and ask questions during class activities, or they can watch and draw during their free time during the week. In-depth critique of student work will be provided through Padlet and through question and answer sessions during our class meetings. Practice: create compositional sketches based on the example of the certain still life using a graphic editor. Homework at the end of each lesson and analysis of student work at the beginning of each lesson.
