Workshop Description
This workshop will focus on teaching artists how to effectively use light to enhance the visual impact of their artworks. We will talk a lot about composition and how the different lighting conditions affect it, also will discuss the influence of lightening conditions on our perception of color. We will focus on developing our senses to feel and understand what our current arrangement of spots needs to become a good composition.
By the end of this light compositional workshop, participants should have a solid foundation in using light to empower their artistic expression, whether through realistic representation or more abstract and stylized approaches.
Workshop Outline
Week 1 -
Presentation - reviewing still life art works of different artists who is known for their experiments with light in their work.
Retrospective from old masters to present days.
Demonstration – experimenting with still life to learn how different shapes, colors, textures, and light reflection levels influence the perception of the moment.
Setting up first composition - each student will choose few objects to experiment with during the workshop.
Small quick drawings or collages - we will draw our composition in charcoal / pencil / or by making a collage, on the way we will see how small changes in arrangement can affect light and color perception and change the whole main essence of composition.
Week 2 -
Small quick paintings – continuing to experiment with objects composition emphasizing the chromatic aspects, while making paintings in color. We will create 1 still life during the workshop and the second one will be a home assignment, using dynamic composition concept which we will learn in that class.
Week 3 -
Big long term painting – for this class we will start to make a big painting from the students chosen composition, while moving around the objects and finding the perfect arrangement for light and color expression.
