Workshop Description
This class will focus on painting boats and harbors through the use of various water based mediums such as gouache, acrylic, acryla gouache and watercolor (oil based mediums are also applicable). Mike will do his demos in acryla gouache.
In this three week workshop, Mike will demonstrate how to capture a simplified and painterly look to boats and how to capture the look and feel of water such as transparency, translucency, luminosity, specularity and shine.
Workshop Outline
Week 1 -
We will start out with an introduction to composition and color with an emphasis on grouping masses and shape design.
The day will start with a demo and finish up with students painting along.
Week 2 -
We will start with an in class critique of the last class session’s works followed by the next demo of how to replace complex details with abstraction.
Students will paint along till the end of class.
Week 3 -
We will start out with another in class critique of student’s work from the last session's class followed by a final demo on how to articulate details.
Students will paint along till the end of class and share their efforts.

Crescent cold-press illustration board (Preferred).
140 lb cold press watercolor block will work as well.
Hobby Lobby also sells a MAster’s Series watercolor canvas panel as well that’s great for gouache and acrylic.
