Workshop Description
Finished artwork doesn’t usually spring fully formed into being like Athena from the head of Zeus. Most of the time, there is quite a bit of planning, preparation, and experimentation that goes unseen by the larger public. This private studio exploration helps us work through ideas and test out different options before committing to a resolved piece. Through a series of experimental value and color exercises, you will develop your own personal imagery and find new ways to move your studio practice forward. This course will help you reenergize your studio practice, jumpstart a new project, and generate ideas for future work.
Workshop Outline
Week 1: Composition, Value, Marker Thumbnails
Week 2: Color Palettes, Cut Paper Collages
Week 3: Experimental Techniques, Mixed Media
Workshop Materials List
Sketchbook, 2B pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener
Tombow water-based markers: N95, N55, N15 (light grey, middle grey, dark grey)
Colored paper (paint chips, or Color-Aid paper, or old magazines, or hand-painted paper)
Rubber cement (or other glue of your choice)
Colored pencils (I like Prismacolor Premier pencils)
Subject matter of your choice
Optional: any additional materials you use in your studio practice (gouache, colored pens, markers, etc)
