Workshop Description
In this 3-week workshop we will learn how to take all the overwhelming information our eyes can see and simplify it to create quick sketches and finished paintings in gouache. We will also cover materials, color mixing, values, and composition and design. Learn how, with a little planning, you can paint your subject more loosely and have the freedom to play and experiment. The life and movement in your work may surprise you!
Workshop Outline
Week 1 - Instructor and student introductions, workshop overview, gouache materials, how to successfully plan your painting using simplification and value studies, gouache demo and questions, student homework assignments.
Week 2 - Student homework critique, principles of composition and design, reinforcement of week 1 lesson, gouache demo and questions, student homework assignments.
Week 3 - Student homework critique, color mixing, reinforcement of lessons in weeks 1 and 2, gouache demo and questions, student homework assignments.
Workshop Materials List
- Strathmore 400 Mixed Media Toned Tan Pad 9x12"
- PRO-Tape Artists White Tape 1/2" wide
- enamel butcher tray or any watercolor palette
- water cup (mine is collapsable for easy travel)
- 1/2" flat synthetic brush for acrylics - the cheaper the better
- 1/4" flat synthetic brush for acrylics - the cheaper the better
- 2B pencil
- Paper towels
- Professional quality gouache (NOT acryl gouache) - I use Holbein Brand
- Cadmium Yellow Lemon
- Marigold
- Geranium
- Rose Violet
- Ultramarine Deep
- Turquoise Blue
- Burnt Sienna
- Grey No. 2
- Permanent white
