Workshop Description
This course is for artists who want to learn tools, techniques, and how to layer with oil and cold wax. This is a great way to push your creativity and loosen up a bit as the tools are different from traditional brushes. Pamela will share oil and cold wax techniques, discuss design elements as well as address color mixing and application for the cold wax artist.

OIL Paint
Basic Colors plus Titanium White and Black
Any variety of paint set (instructor prefers Gamblin) If you have favorite colors that’s great too
Excellent colors to add if you don’t have them are:
Gamblin’s Tansparent Orange and
Gold Ochre
MEDIUMS
Gamblin(preferred) cold wax medium
Gamblin Gamsol (oderless mineral spirits)
Gamblin Galkyd gel ( this is a specific ingredient in the mix, no substitutions.) If you cannot find it you may omit using this product but your results will be different)
SUBTATES
12X16 arches oil paper
1 to 2 10x10" gessoed wood panels or wood cradled boards
TOOLS
A good set of palette knives (at least three)
firm flat 1" wide color shaper
firm flat 2" wide color shaper
IMPORTANT TOOLS for CWM
I use squeegees and brayers from a specific location. The brayers are of a soft variety, not typical hard brayers. Speedball brayers are not soft enough!
Students need a small 4” detail squeegee and 2" soft brayer at minimum. Here is the link for the 2" and 1" soft brayers and the 4” detail squeegee (https://coldwaxacademy.com/squeegees/).
A hard neutral colored or white hard plastic or glass surface for mixing/rolling paint. No smaller than 16x20- the larger the better. A thick old glass table top is good. OR Gray palette paper (size -16X20) if you cannot find the plastic or glass surface.

Waxed papers
Tissue papers
Stencils
Inovart soft rubber brayers may be substituted if student cannot get the ones from the link enclosed. A brayer is essential for paint application methods and if not squishy enough will not do the job.
Hard plastic scrapers will not be easy to work with so be sure to get the squeegee mentioned above.
