Workshop Description
In this workshop, you’ll learn about my approach to painting dramatically-lit portraits. Each week we will refer to a photo reference and I will explain (from start to finish) my process of dealing with shadows and light. I will work on a full colour oil portrait demonstration each week and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Workshop Outline
Week One: There will be an introduction to drawing and composition at the beginning of the workshop and I will explain in detail about my method of pre-mixing skin-tone values.
Week Two: In the second week, we will focus on brushwork - partly to analyse how to capture graduated values and partly in order to optimise the quality of mark-making.
Week Three: The focus throughout the course will be on using colour expressively, but, in the final week, I will be really pushing the vibrancy of the portrait painting process.
