In this three-week course, participants will engage in a hands-on exploration of creative drawing through improvisation and mixed media techniques, fostering a supportive environment for artistic growth.

Workshop Outline
Week 1: Introduction to Materials and Techniques (3 hours)
Focus: Stop overthinking, mark making, and free improvisation.
Goals: Develop a thorough understanding of materials to foster comfort and curiosity, prioritizing quantity over quality.
Techniques: Mark making using various techniques such as India ink, watercolor, collage, layering, and blending.
Before Break:
Introduction: Introducing myself and the session.
Slideshow: Drawing, Improvisation, and Mixed Techniques—Importance of Getting Started.
Small Talk: Discuss participants’ experiences with different materials and their favorite mediums.
After Break:
Demonstration: Analyze both drawings and alternative papers, varying weights, textures, colors, and formats.
Practice: Demonstrate using different techniques and materials such as pastels and acrylics.
Exploration: Participants will play with materials and supports, using loose lines and marks without focusing on evaluating their technique or results.
Week 2: Distancing and Recovery (3 hours)
Focus: Revisiting discarded pieces created in the first week with fresh eyes and a new perspective.
Work Review and Selection:
Selection: Review previously discarded pieces and manage expectations.
Exploration: Explore compositions, recovery, and layering techniques.
Embrace Mistakes: Use previous mistakes to discover new possibilities by combining new ideas onto discarded pieces.
Before Break:
Introduction: Introducing the session.

Small Talk: Discuss the importance of distancing and revisiting pieces.
After Break:
Demonstration: Demonstrate recovering and evolving works by combining ideas on discarded pieces.
