Course Description
A comprehensive look at the essential elements of landscape painting with a goal of improving skills, knowledge and practice and enjoyment. Topics to be covered include materials, palettes and colors, art history of the topics, use of photos, composition in landscape, brushwork, perspective and styles and approaches.
Each class will cover one or more topics with a weekly project assigned and critiqued on Padlet. Weekly video demos by the instructor will be included.
All mediums and levels of experience are welcome.

Week 1 - Introduction, Materials, history of landscape art, the limited palette.
Week 2 - Introduction, Q&A, the full palette, visual examples, brushwork.
Week 3 - Introduction, Q&A, visual examples, compositional strategies.
Week 4 - Introduction, Q&A, visual examples, depth and perspective.
Week 5 - Introduction, Q&A, visual examples, landscape styles.
Week 6 - Introduction, Q&A, visual examples, landscape styles.
Course Materials List
We will discuss materials in the first class meeting.
Basic classic palette for oil, acrylic or watercolor and pastel.

Gessoed painting surfaces, 8X10-20X16, watercolor and pastel pads of choice.
Basic color surfaces are white, gray, tan. These can be opaque or transparent imprimaturas.
Containers for oil and thinners or water (Preferably metal or heavy plastic. Not glass because they break)
Palette for mixing colors (Disposable, wood, metal, etc.)
Linseed oil for oil paints
Brushes for oil, watercolor or acrylic. (3-4 well shaped and flexible bristle brushes)
Paper towels
View finder for compositional choices
Sketchbook for thumbnail sketches.
Pastel or watercolor paper if needed
