Course Description

Style is a way of seeing and simplifying the complexities of nature.  It is how the artist interprets and expresses their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.  In this course we will be studying the stylistic choices and techniques of three different artists, Tom Thompson, Wayne Thiebaud, and Maureen Gallace.

Through copying and analysis, we will learn about composition, color harmony, surface specificity, form, and spatial simplification.  In addition to copying works by these artists I will demonstrate techniques and strategies in my own studio practice including paint mixing strategies, paint mediums and rheology, surface preparations and employing a solvent free studio environment.
