Course Description

Taking inspiration from the “color spot” painting lineage associated with Charles Hawthorne, this class teaches students to build drawings with abstract shapes of value and color. Using a variety of media including graphite, ballpoint pen, color pencil, and collage, students will learn how to create painterly drawings that tow the line between form and abstraction. Class assignments will also feature a variety of subject matter including still images of figure models, landscapes, and still life. The objective of the class is to give students an accessible and modern perspective on drawing to enhance their sketching or painting practice.
